How to Choose a Memory Foam Dog Bed (Support Guide)

How to Choose a Memory Foam Dog Bed (Support Guide)

Our memory foam dog bed comes in one size, made for small and medium dogs — we recommend it for dogs up to around 22 kg. It's a one-piece orthopedic foam bed that arrives vacuum-packed and expands at home. This guide helps you check your dog will fit, explains why memory foam is worth it, and shows how to keep it clean.

Will the bed fit my dog?

The bed measures 79 × 63 cm with a 13.5 cm depth, in a single size designed for small and medium breeds, and we recommend it for dogs up to about 22 kg. To be sure, measure your dog lying stretched out on their side from nose to base of tail — they should fit on the bed with a little room to shift and stretch. It suits dogs like whippets, Italian greyhounds, spaniels, smaller terriers and small-to-medium crossbreeds. Full-size greyhounds and larger breeds usually sit above our 22 kg guide, so it isn't the right fit for them.

Why a memory foam (orthopedic) bed?

Memory foam moulds to your dog's body and spreads their weight evenly, taking pressure off the joints instead of letting them press into a hard floor. Because ours is a single piece of premium foam rather than loose filling, it gives consistent support and doesn't flatten and clump the way cheap poly-fill beds do within weeks. It's especially worthwhile for older dogs, dogs with joint or muscle issues, and bony, thin-coated breeds that feel every hard surface. Browse the memory foam bed to see sizes and options.

What you get, and setting it up

The bed ships as a "bed in a box": the one-piece foam is vacuum-sealed to keep delivery compact. Once you unbox it, lay it flat and allow up to 72 hours for it to fully inflate to its proper shape and firmness — don't judge the bed (or let your dog settle in for good) until it has finished expanding.

The bed cover comes in dark grey. Extra covers are light grey, so if you order a Bed + Extra cover you'll receive one bed with a dark grey cover plus one spare light grey cover.

Keeping it clean

The cover is removable and machine-washable, and a waterproof liner underneath protects the foam from accidents — important for puppies and senior dogs. Spot-clean the foam itself rather than washing it, since soaking solid memory foam can break it down.

We really recommend grabbing an extra cover: cleaning becomes effortless — pull off the dirty one, slip on the fresh cover, and your dog has a clean bed straight away while the other is in the wash. No bare foam, no waiting around.

Features at a glance

Where to put the bed

Place it somewhere quiet, draft-free and slightly out of the main traffic, so it becomes your dog's own safe spot. For an anxious dog this matters even more — a calm corner they can retreat to helps them settle (see our guide on helping a nervous dog feel calmer).

Is memory foam good for whippets and small sighthounds?

Yes — they're some of the dogs that benefit most. Whippets and Italian greyhounds are bony and thin-coated with very little natural padding, so hard floors press straight onto their elbows and hips. A memory foam bed cushions those pressure points, and both sit comfortably within our small-to-medium size.

Frequently asked questions

Will the bed fit my dog?

It comes in one size — 79 × 63 cm, 13.5 cm deep — for small and medium dogs, and we recommend it for dogs up to about 22 kg. Measure your dog nose to tail lying down to check they fit with room to move.

Are memory foam dog beds good for older dogs?

Yes. Memory foam spreads weight and relieves pressure on the joints, which helps senior dogs and dogs with joint or muscle issues far more than a flat poly-fill bed.

How long does the bed take to expand?

The bed is vacuum-packed for delivery, so lay it flat and allow up to 72 hours for the one-piece foam to fully inflate to its proper shape and firmness.

How do I clean the bed?

The cover is removable and machine-washable, and a waterproof liner protects the foam. We recommend an extra cover so you can swap a clean one on while the other washes; spot-clean the foam itself rather than soaking it.

Is the bed good for whippets and Italian greyhounds?

Yes. They're bony and thin-coated with little padding, so memory foam protects their joints from hard floors, and both fit comfortably within the small-to-medium size.
